It’s starting to get hot so many American families are starting to make their annual pilgrimage to America’s beaches. Within, you get to enjoy all of the usual tropes of beach-going: Playing in the water, baking in the sun, building sandcastles, and burying friends and family in the sand. Except, now you can’t exactly do that anymore. Yes, there are in fact rules at a beach and not only that, the Myrtle Beach City Council just added a new one. That, “No hole or trench on the beach shall be deeper than two feet.” Also that any hole created must be filled before leaving the beach. Why did they create this new rule? To prevent injury of course, because yes personal injury does in fact extend to the beach. While most people can’t imagine getting themselves injured at a beach while on vacation. The truth is, it’s this kind of thinking that makes the beach a No Man’s Land of sorts.
Slippery surfaces and hazardous materials abound and if someone slips and falls usually it’s assumed it’s their own fault, but there are certain instances in which the means that they fell will give them grounds to start a personal injury case: namely a hole of someone’s own creation. The new rule seems excessive to some but smart to others.
